Recording 29 Chickens today, we put out a pumpkin for them to eat. Foraging is getting a bit sparce but they are still happy to get out each day. We've taken to calling them back with clapping and Phil inside offering up opened pecans.
We gave them the biggest today and we'll give them the last one tomorrow.
Not to forget the human component of the house, I used the chicken's eggs and some of our pecans to make oatmeal chocolate chip pecan cookies. I used butter and never can remember when to actually use shortening to get the chewy cookies instead of the crunchy ones.
Finally, we worked on putting up the first of the two bump gates that will help us not to have to get out of the car to open and shut gates when we leave the property. These are electrified to keep the cattle and horses in, but a green area will allow humans and cars to safely pass through.
It's been a great year for PnS Farm. We continue to harvest pecans and will be selling pecans, eggs and other treats in the new year!
