Frugal February?

February seems like a good time to try an experiment.  I found a recipe for Mason Jar Greek Yogurt and for our own Granola Bars.  I am trying to cut back on the waste that comes to us from the store.  When every product is wrapped independently, it seems like making it for myself and in bulk (2 weeks worth) would help me cut back on the waste, but to also control exactly what goes into my stuff.  This month, these two dietary staples will be home made.

As I made the Granola:
1.5 c Oatmeal (steel cut)
1.5 c Dry Cereal (cheerios crushed)
1 T Cocoa Powder
0.3 t salt
0.5 c Rice Syrup
2 T Peanut or Pecan Butter
0.5 c Chocolate Chips
0.5 Pecans

Mix Dry Ingredients in bowl.  Heat Rice Syrup and Peanut/Pecan Butter 30 sec in microwave.  Pour over dry ingredients.  Mix.  Bake 10-15 minutes and press down when done.  Break into parts.

2 weeks into the experiment and I'm enjoying the Greek-like thickness and smooth nature of the yogurt and the sweet taste of granola, just enough to take the edge off the sweet and chocolate need!
