Sorting pecans

This time of year is especially busy because it is pecan time.  Not only are we trying to pick as many pecans we can, we end up sorting many into a couple of groups.  Our pecans are sold at the Farmers' Market.  Some are used in baking around town (thanks R.C. Sumthin's)  and many are foisted to neighbors, family and friends.

There is a peace that comes from sitting in the field when the sun is out.  It's another story when it happens to be cold.  We collected lots of pecans in piles prior to irrigating, some are mixed with some that are good for sale, others are sorted to have pecans to feed the chickens and turkeys.  Hard work, sore thumbs, but I found myself singing that Sesame Street favorite:

One of these things is not like the others,
One of these things just doesn't belong,
Can you tell which thing is not like the others
By the time I finish my song?
Did you guess which thing was not like the others?
Did you guess which thing just doesn't belong?
If you guessed this one is not like the others,
Then you're absolutely...right!

My thumbs and backs are sore, but the pecans are piling up!
